Jimmy Carter is the only former president to RSVP to Trump’s inauguration
With less than a month to go before Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter is reportedly the only former president to RSVP so far for Trump’s inauguration festivities.
Politico is reporting George W. Bush will decide whether he will be attending in the new year, according to a spokesperson. The Clintons have reportedly not made a decision yet.
George H.W. Bush has confirmed he will not attend. His spokesperson, Jim McGrath, cited the 92-year-old’s age as the reason for his absence.
The Clinton team seems to be divided over whether Bill should attend. Some say he should go to show support for the peaceful transition of power. Hillary Clintonas the former first lady would naturally be his guest, and likely the subject of much attention throughout the event.
In recent years, not all living presidents have attended the festivities. The Bushes did not attend Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013, and Gerald Ford missed out on George W. Bush’s second inauguration in 2005.
